How to Write Copy That Encourages Repeat Purchases

How to Write Copy That Encourages Repeat Purchases

Understandably, many businesses want to encourage as many repeat purchases as possible. At the top level, repeat purchases drive predictable revenue, but there are many other key benefits of repeat customers.

There are many tactics you can use if you want customers to keep coming back to you. No prizes for guessing which tactic in particular I’ll be discussing in this blog! It’s copywriting, of course! It’s time to use your words to nudge customers in the right direction, ensuring they come back.

Check out some of the ways you should look to write copy to encourage repeat purchases:

Personalised Experience

One customer is not your only customer. They know that. You know that. But, you should still make them feel like they are the only one. You can do that by personalising the experience as much as possible.

This is where data can really come in handy. For example, if you had a customer purchase a t-shirt, follow up with some other clothing items that would match the t-shirt. Use their name and any other information you have on them to personalise the experience even further.

Leverage Post-Purchase Communication

This point feeds in well from the previous one. Once a customer makes a purchase and you send them the confirmation email, that’s not it. You should also look to nurture the relationship by thanking customers for their purchase, offering help, and more.

Email campaigns are usually the place where this goes down, but other forms of communication, like social media and SMS, can work as well. Not only is the actual message important, but the form of communication as well.

Send Replenishment Reminders

Think about when the customer may realistically run out of the product they have purchased. When that date rolls around, send out a reminder that it may be time to stock up again. You could even offer a discount to get the customer over the line for a repeat purchase.

This point ties in very well with my bonus tip, so make sure you keep reading until the end! My bonus tip doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with actual copy, but it’s a good tip that I see a lot when it comes to consumable goods.

Create Loyalty Programs

If in doubt, create a loyalty program! They have been around for a long time, and for good reason, too. They work! But you have to get the communication about the loyalty program right, otherwise it might be a bit of a flop.

Loyalty programs are also usually filled with discounts, but you should see if there is anything else you can do to make those loyal customers feel extra special. I worked for a brand that ran a competition and brought out some of their most engaged customers to an exclusive sporting event.

Bonus Tip: Encourage Subscriptions

Now, this isn’t strictly related to how copy can encourage repeat purchases, but it’s such an effective tactic, I can’t leave it out! For products that will run out within a short-ish timeframe, you should encourage subscriptions. I see this happen a lot these days, from my dog’s flea and tick treatment to my hair care products.

It’s a subscribe and save system. So, if you subscribe to have the product automatically purchased and shipped to you after a certain amount of time, you will save, say, 5% or 10% on the full price. If it’s a product you know the customer will have to continually fill up on, this is an easy way to get repeat purchases.

Ready to get repeat purchases for your business? Well, that’s good, because I’m ready to write some copy that gets you those repeat customers! Sounds like a winning combo to me. You know what to do: https://kopywriterkatherine.com/contact/ 📧
